Dear May ISD Families and Community,
Due to the significant winter storm and extreme cold front moving through our area, May ISD will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026.
The National Weather Service has forecasted a dangerous mix of sleet and freezing rain beginning tonight and continuing through much of the weekend. With temperatures in May expected to drop as low as 8°F on Saturday night and remain near freezing on Monday morning, road conditions are expected to become hazardous.
As a rural district, we understand that many of our families and buses navigate backroads and bridges that are particularly susceptible to ice. In making this decision, the safety of our students and staff is our absolute priority. We believe that announcing this now provides our families with the necessary time to make arrangements and stay safely off the roads during the peak of the storm's impact.
Please stay warm, check on your neighbors, and take all necessary precautions to protect your family and property during this hard freeze. We will continue to monitor the weather and will provide further updates regarding Tuesday’s schedule via our May ISD School App and social media channels.
Stay safe,.
Sincerely,
Chad Dail, Superintendent
